Lacoste

The brand Lacoste was founded in France in 1933 by tennis player Rene Lacoste and Andre Gillier. The famous green crocodile logo was created following a nickname associated with the companies founder, Rene. Due to his tenacity on the tennis court his fans gave him the nickname “the crocodile”.

With almost 50 million Lacoste products sold in over 110 countries the brand continues to thrive. The company was sold in 2012 and bought outright by the Swiss family-held group Maus Freres. The Pentland Group  holds the exclusive worldwide license to produce the footwear, Coty Inc owns the fragrance licence, CEMALAC have the bags and small leather goods license and Devanlay and ICCC manufacture the clothing under license. In 2017, tennis player Novak Djokovic was named brand ambassador and the new crocodile next to Rene Lacoste.
